The design is not what blows the budget. The site conditions nobody surveyed are what blow the budget.

What interior design actually involves
Most interior quotations in Mumbai are built from a rate card — so much per square foot of wardrobe, so much per running foot of kitchen — applied to a floor plan. It produces a number quickly, which is why it is popular, and it is wrong roughly as often as it is right.
What it misses is everything particular to your flat. Whether the walls are plumb. Whether the existing electrical can carry what you are adding. Whether the society allows core cutting, and on which days. Whether the lift takes an 8 ft panel or everything has to be carried up. Each of those is a cost, and each of them surfaces after you have signed if nobody looked first.
We survey before we price. It takes longer to get you a number and the number holds.
Our approach
Our scope starts with a measured survey — every wall, plumb checked, existing points mapped, slab height recorded, society rules confirmed in writing. From that we produce a layout and a 3D concept, then an itemised quotation where carcass grade, hardware brand, finish type and electrical scope are each a separate line. Execution runs to a dated schedule with civil, electrical, carpentry, false ceiling and painting sequenced so trades are not working over each other. One project manager, one point of contact, daily photographs.
Common problems we are called for
- A quotation built on a rate card that grows 30% once site conditions surface
- Carcass material unnamed in the contract, so BWR quietly becomes MDF
- Electrical load never calculated, so the new AC and hob trip the existing MCB
- Society permissions discovered mid-project, stopping work for two weeks
- Five vendors with no sequencing, each blaming the previous one for the delay

Requirement and budget conversation

Layout and 3D concept
Floor plan plus 3D views of each room, revised with you until the layout is settled.
Itemised quotation
Line by line, with material grades and brands named and exclusions stated plainly.
Execution to a dated schedule
Civil, electrical, carpentry, ceiling, paint — sequenced, with daily photographs.
Snagging and handover
Joint walk-through, snag list closed in writing, warranty and hardware documents handed over.
What goes into the specification
We name every material by type and grade in the quotation, and hand over documentation at completion. No unbranded line items.
A full interior is often not what you need
If your carpentry is sound and the flat simply looks tired, paint, lighting and new shutters will change it more than people expect, for a fraction of a full interior. We have told clients to spend two lakh instead of fifteen and walked away with a smaller job. That is a reasonable outcome. The site visit is free precisely so you can get an honest read before you commit to a number.

They spent two hours measuring and checking walls before giving us any price, and told us upfront that our society would not allow core cutting on weekends. Every other quote we had was a WhatsApp number within a day. The schedule slipped by four days over nine weeks.
Sneha and Karthik Iyer3BHK, Lower ParelInterior Design — frequently asked questions
How much does interior design cost for a 2BHK in Mumbai?
It varies more with material and scope than with area. A 2BHK where you are doing kitchen, two wardrobes, a TV unit, false ceiling in two rooms and full painting sits in a very different bracket from one where you are also doing flooring, bathrooms and loose furniture. We measure on site and quote line by line with grades named, so you can see exactly which decisions are driving the number and remove any of them.
Do you charge a design fee separately?
The site visit, measured survey and 3D concept are free with no obligation. If you proceed, design is included in the execution scope. If you want drawings only, without us executing, we quote that as a separate design-only fee.
How long will my flat be unusable?
Most clients move out for the duration — a 2BHK runs 45 to 70 days. It is possible to phase the work room by room so you can stay, and we do this for clients who cannot move, but it adds roughly 30% to the timeline because trades cannot run in parallel.
What is not included in your quotation?
We state exclusions plainly. Typically outside scope: loose furniture and mattresses, curtains and blinds unless specified, appliances, society deposits and permission charges, and any structural or plumbing work discovered behind existing finishes. Anything found mid-project is priced and approved by you in writing before it proceeds.
Do you handle society permissions?
We confirm the society's rules in writing before quoting — working hours, lift usage, debris removal, whether core cutting is permitted — and we prepare the application. The deposit and the approval itself remain in the flat owner's name, as societies require.

In an Indian kitchen the carcass sits in steam for an hour a day. That is the specification that matters, and it is the one nobody shows you in the showroom.
