What it costs
Full interiors for a 1BHK in Mumbai generally run between ₹3 lakh and ₹6 lakh, using the same basic, mid and premium specification levels as our 2BHK cost breakdown. At the lower end you get the essential joinery: a kitchen, one wardrobe, a TV unit, basic electrical and painting. Towards ₹6 lakh the same scope moves to better hardware, a ceiling with a proper lighting plan and more built-in storage.
As in a 2BHK, the kitchen and the wardrobe together take the largest share. A straight or L-shaped kitchen typically runs ₹1.5 lakh to ₹2.5 lakh, as our kitchen cost guide explains.
Where to spend and where to save
- Spend on the kitchen carcass and hardware, the wardrobe carcass, and the electrical. These are invisible and expensive to redo.
- Save on shutter finishes (laminate instead of acrylic), decorative ceilings and loose furniture, which can be upgraded later.
- Our low-cost interior guide has more on holding the budget without cutting the wrong corners.
Ideas that make a 1BHK work
Storage everywhere, visible nowhere
Take the bedroom wardrobe to the ceiling with a loft. Use a hydraulic storage bed. Build a shoe cabinet at the entrance. Hide the router and set-top box inside the TV unit.
One hall, three jobs
The living room is usually also the dining room and often the study. A wall-mounted, extendable or foldable dining table, a sofa-cum-bed for guests, and a slim desk along one wall let the hall do all three without feeling crowded.
A kitchen that works hard
In a straight or L-shaped 1BHK kitchen, a tall unit and wall cabinets up to the ceiling double the storage. Keep the counter clear with a few pull-outs.
Make it feel bigger
Use one consistent shutter finish across the flat, light wall colours, a mirror on a wardrobe shutter, and ceiling-high curtains. A simple cove false ceiling along the edges gives soft light without lowering the room.
How long it takes
A 1BHK usually takes five to eight weeks once the design is frozen. Society working hours, which in many Mumbai buildings restrict noisy work to weekday daytime, are the most common cause of delay. Freeze the design and electrical layout before work starts.
Get the number for your flat
These ranges are a starting point. The real figure depends on what is behind your walls, the condition of the plumbing and wiring, and the specification you choose. A measured survey and an itemised quotation are the only way to get a number that will not move.
