About home automation
Most automation is far cheaper and more reliable when the neutral wiring and hub position are planned before the walls close. Retrofit wireless systems exist and work, with the trade-off of batteries, app dependence and occasional dropouts.

Home Automation — questions
Can automation be retrofitted?
Wireless systems can, with the caveat of batteries and occasional dropouts. Wired automation needs a neutral at every switch position, which older Mumbai flats usually do not have — so retrofitting it means opening walls.
What happens if the system fails?
We always retain physical switches that work independently. A house that cannot turn its lights on because an app is down is a design failure, not a feature.
